Therapy for LGBTQ+ Issues in Brighton & Online

Finding a therapist who understands and respects your identity can make all the difference. I offer warm, affirming counselling for LGBTQ+ people in Brighton and online across the UK. Whether you’re exploring your gender or sexuality, managing the impact of discrimination, or simply looking for a safe space to talk, therapy can support you in living with more confidence and ease.

A safe, affirming space for LGBTQ+ people in Brighton

Coming to therapy as an LGBTQ+ person can bring its own questions and challenges. Whether you’re exploring gender identity, navigating coming out, coping with minority stress, or recovering from past discrimination and trauma, therapy can help you feel seen, understood and more at ease in your life. I offer an affirming, non-judgemental practice in Brighton where your identity is respected and central to the work we do together.

Online LGBTQ+ counselling across the UK

If you prefer remote support, I provide secure online therapy via Zoom so you can access specialist, LGBTQ+ affirming counselling from anywhere in the UK. Online sessions are confidential and flexible, making it easier to fit therapy around work, family or geographical limits.

Who I work with

I work with adults and young people (18+) across the LGBTQ+ spectrum, including people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, non-binary, gender diverse, queer, and those exploring sexual orientation or gender identity. I also support partners, allies and family members who want to better understand or support a loved one.

LGBTQ specific Issues I can support you with

People come to therapy for many reasons. Common themes I see include:

  • Questions about gender identity and transition pathways
  • Coming out to family, friends or workplaces
  • Minority stress, microaggressions and internalised stigma
  • Relationship and intimacy issues within queer relationships
  • Identity, self-esteem and body image concerns
  • Trauma, including hate crime, discrimination or medical trauma related to transition
  • Sexuality, desire and sexual health worries
  • Parenting, surrogacy and family formation questions
  • Grief, loss and complex life transitions

This list isn’t exhaustive – if you’re unsure whether I can help, please get in touch for a brief call to discuss your needs.

My approach: LGBTQ-affirming, relational, trauma-informed

My core training is in psychodynamic counselling, and I integrate relational, somatic and neuroscience-informed principles into my practice. I work from an explicitly LGBT-affirming lens: that means I centre your lived experience, use inclusive language, and avoid pathologising identity.

Why choose a BACP-registered therapist in Brighton

I am a BACP-registered practitioner and adhere to professional standards of confidentiality, ethics and continuing professional development. Being LGBTQ+ competent is a core part of my work: I keep up to date with best practice around gender-affirming care, GSRD (Gender, Sex and Relationship Diversity) issues, and the specific mental-health needs of LGBTQ people.

Practical details

Sessions are 50 minutes, usually scheduled weekly at the same day and time to support continuity and therapeutic progress. My standard fee is £60 per session; I hold a small number of reduced-fee places (from £45) for people on low incomes or in receipt of benefits. I work with adults and young people from 18+.

Confidentiality and safety

Your privacy is taken seriously. We will discuss confidentiality, its limits, and how I handle records before we begin. If you are in immediate danger or at risk, I will explain how I must act to keep you safe and what support is available locally.
