Therapy for Rape and Sexual Assault
Compassionate, confidential support to help you heal at your own pace
Experiencing rape or sexual assault can leave lasting emotional and physical impacts. You may be coping with shock, shame, fear, numbness, or confusion, and you may not feel like yourself. These are natural responses to a deeply traumatic event. You don’t have to navigate them alone.
My therapy sessions offer a safe, calm, non-judgemental space where you can begin to process what has happened and rebuild a sense of safety and trust in yourself.
A Safe Space Where You Set the Pace
Talking about trauma can feel overwhelming. In counselling, you remain in control of what you share and how quickly we move. There is no pressure to revisit details unless you feel ready.
My role is to walk alongside you, offering stability, grounding, and compassion while you regain your sense of strength.
Understanding the Effects of Sexual Trauma
Trauma affects everyone differently. You may notice:
- Flashbacks or intrusive memories
- Panic attacks or persistent anxiety
- Avoidance of places, situations, or people
- Difficulties with intimacy or relationships
- Feeling disconnected from your body
- Low mood, withdrawal, or numbness
- Shame, self-blame, or a loss of confidence
- Sleep disturbances or nightmares
These responses are your mind and body’s way of trying to cope with overwhelming fear. Therapy helps you make sense of these reactions and begin to feel safer in your daily life.
My Approach
I work with warmth, sensitivity, and respect, offering a trauma-informed and psychodynamic foundation. This means:
- You are always in control of the process
- Your emotions and reactions are welcomed and validated
- We explore both present day difficulties and deeper emotional roots
- The work moves gently, safely, and at your pace
What to Expect in Sessions
Sessions are 50 minutes and held weekly. You can use this time to talk, reflect, sit quietly, or explore – whatever feels right for you.
Therapy for sexual trauma is not a linear journey. Some weeks feel easier than others. That’s okay. I will be there to support you through each step. You are welcome to contact me to arrange an initial session or ask any questions. We can take it from there, gently and safely. If you’re not local to Brighton or prefer to work from the comfort of your home, I also offer online therapy via Zoom.
